Breakin' Up Is Hard To Do

There was once a little girl who loved her binki very, very, VERY much.

Her mommy loved it too because she could give the binki to the little girl any time and like magic the little girl would stop whining or crying.

Then one day the mommy took the little girl to the big bad dentist, who said, "Get rid of her binki now or pay mucho dinero to fix her teeth later." Well, the mommy had nightmares about this:

Nor did she like the idea of spending this:

So the Binki Fairy came for a visit. The mommy told the little girl the Binki Fairy would take her binkis, give them to other babies, and leave her a treat in their place.

At first the little girl was excited, but when she woke up the next morning and her binkis were gone, she didn't care about the M&Ms or fairy glitter the Binki Fairy had left her. She cried and cried and cried, and for about a week, looked like this all the time:

Her mommy hated it because the little girl didn't sleep as well for naps and bedtime, but she loved it because there were no more frantic searches for a lost binki or return trips home for a forgotten binki.

Update: The little girl no longer cries for her binki. Nevertheless, she does make her mommy sing a special binki song before nap and bedtime. It goes like this, to the tune of Where is Thumbkin?

Where is Binki?

Where is Binki?

It is gone

It is gone

The Binki Fairy took it

To another baby

Bye Bye Binki

Bye Bye Binki

Each time the song is sung the little girl sniffles in her crib (still!). Now, if you were the mommy, what would you do about this 11-month-old binki lover?

Has Marissa tried to take the baby's binki yet?! Cute post Sara! That is always such a transition.

YAY...another funny Sara post.

Glad to hear Marissa is binki-free.

Now, I think I would try to take away Sophie's now. (By the way, she is too cute...she is growing so fast). I took Jadyn's binki away at 6 months. I thought it would be hard for her, but it barely phased her. So, maybe Sophie won't have as much trouble.

Now, with Maya...how am I supposed to take away her thumb?!! Oh well, I will deal with that later I guess.

Totally LAUGHING MY HEAD OFF! I loved every picture, every word. My favorite picture is the one of Marissa at the end with wild hair on the sofa. So classic. Good luck with whatever you decide.

Priceless!!! Seriously, Sara, you are so funny and creative. The binki fairy?? Who'd have thought?? What a lucky little girl. Good for you for sticking to your guns. I'm sure that was a very difficult week! Oh, and I love the binki song. =)

I really love the picture of the "grumpy" Marissa. So cute!

Neither of my kids have liked pacifiers, so I can't offer any advice at all on that subject.

I would leave that cute binki lovin baby alone and let her suck away! Those cheeks with the binki mouth are too cute! I love your caterpillar ride toy too--I saw it at Toys R Us the other day and thought it would way fun for kids. Your kids have such fun toys! Their mom must be nice!

So cute! You are so creative. You should copyright the song. :)
I have no suggestions. Emily sucks her thumb and Abby still won't go in the potty. I don't think I have anything to advise. :)

I do enjoy reading your blog. I guess this means that you won't be handing the binky over to her new husband. : ) I'm sure it was as torturous for you as it was for her, so my hat's off to you!

Finally a new post! SOOO funny. I would suggest getting rid of Sophies binki ASAP or she'll be in the same dilemma as Sissy, but then again I definitely don't have children yet and would do anything do keep a kid from crying. Good luck! :)

At least it was a VERY funny post to tell the story of a not-funny week. I would ease Sophie off it after vacation this summer rather than go cold turkey. That picture of Sis on the couch is hysterical! I'm surprised she even let you take it. :) :)

Clara has about 8 (yes, I typed EIGHT) binkies. Each week I've been clipping "x's" into the tips of them. She tells me they're "broken" and hands them to me. We're down to one. We'll see how it goes!! Aaah!

You are a brave mommy!! I am just happy that Georgia never would take a binki but, she does love her a sippy cup!!! I am still trying to break her of a sippy cup at bedtime.

lol, that was HILARIOUS! You are so great. I love the stuff you come up with-the binki fairy is genius. I have no idea about binki relationships so I don't know what to tell you about that cute little sister but I'll be interested to know what you end up doing :).
