I recently did something incredibly brave. I ran an errand with Riley while he was wearing underpants. I was terrified, but he didn't want to put a diaper on and I had to run the errand, so . . . I decided to chance it. At the store I must have asked him 100 times within 20 minutes if he had to go potty, even though he had just gone before we left. I whizzed down the aisles in record speed and was home in a jiffy--whew! Since then we have run many errands sans diapers, all disaster free. But I'm still a little tense about it. After all, accidents happen all the time to quasi-potty trained kids, and what would I do if he were to have one in the produce section of Walmart? Do I tie his jacket around his waist and make a beeline for the car, leaving a cart full of groceries? Am I supposed to pack an extra pair of pants and underpants so that I can just change him there? Will people smile that "Oh honey, I've been there" smile, or will they be disgusted? Maybe I'm just supposed to stay cooped up at home until I'm certain no accidents will occur (however long that takes). I'm looking for advice. Anyone?

Okay, I obviously have not been there done that yet....but I think the best plan is to pack spare clothes until he is fully trained. Glad to hear he is getting close. We are just about to start down that road with Jadyn. Do you use any rewards with him (stickers or m&m's, etc)? I need the lowdown!!
I agree with Lindsey - pack extra clothes if the errand can't be missed - like grocery shopping. Sounds like you'll have to buy more gumballs! :) :)
Get some cheap sweats/cotton pants that you can leave in the car with the diaper and you're set. Then you never have to think about getting it ready when you have to go somewhere and you're always prepared. Adam now acknowledges when he poops, but that's about as far as we've gotten in the training dept.
Way to go Sara! (and Riley) You will get more and more confident as you take those trips!
What I do is keep an extra set of clothes for Tori in the car, and then the trusted package of wipes in my purse. Luckily, no problems yet. All I can say is that I have NEVER spent so much time in public restrooms as I have the past 4 months! Also, not sure how you have trained Riley, but I use "Charmin To Go Toilet seat covers purse pack" which I love with Tori because those toilets are Nasty;) You can find them at Wal-Mart in that little area by the hair/bath products where you can just buy the 99 cent samples of shampoo, soap, toothepaste, etc. Good luck!
Lindsey,
I do use rewards. Riley gets a penny everytime he goes potty that he can put in the gumball machine. I'm sure you can also use M&Ms or jellybeans in the gumball machine too. Anyway, so far it has worked great. Gumballs are a huge incentive for him. Good luck with Jadyn! I have some more tips that I can email you later.
